As 2025 comes to an end, we’re reflecting on FTPie’s evolution—from a modern FTP client into a comprehensive file management hub. 2025 was a year of refinement and expansion. Our focus was not only on adding features, but on making FTPie fundamentally smoother, faster, and more reliable. While FTP remains a decades-old protocol, our mission is to build a modern, professional toolkit around it.
2025: Polishing the Core
This year’s development was guided by three core pillars: performance, stability, and practical new utilities.
Enhanced Foundation
- Smoother, Faster UI: Extensive interface polish made navigation more intuitive and significantly reduced launch times.
- More Reliable Transfers: Numerous transfer-related issues were resolved across storage integrations to ensure consistent, dependable performance.
- Expanded Protocol Compatibility: FTPS and SFTP connectors were improved to support a wider range of servers with better stability.
New Integrations & Major Features
- Self-Hosted Cloud Support: Native integrations for SeaFile, OwnCloud, and Nextcloud.
- Built-In Compression: Create, browse, and manage ZIP archives directly on any connected storage.
- Automatic Backups: Schedule backups from any source (local, FTP, or cloud) to any destination.
- Workflow Tools: Recent Documents, Pinned Folders, and integrated power tools for screenshots, screen recording, and note-taking.
The 2026 Roadmap
The coming year focuses on advanced capabilities—completing the Pro tier and laying the foundation for enterprise-grade workflows.
Q1 2026: Completing the Pro Tier
- Easy Encryption: Encrypt and decrypt files on any storage using a clean, simplified interface.
- Command-Line Interface (CLI): Perform core operations such as upload, download, and sharing via the command line for automation.
- Scheduled Transfers: Run any transfer at a specific date or on a recurring schedule.
These features will conclude development of the Pro tier.
Continuous Performance Improvements
Alongside major releases, we will continue shipping incremental updates focused on:
- Transfer Speed Optimization: Achieving faster transfer speeds than web browsers (Google Drive, OneDrive) and competing desktop clients.
- Share via Email: Send file links directly via Outlook or Gmail using OAuth authentication, in just a few clicks.
Q2–Q3 2026: Enterprise Foundations
Development of the highest tier begins, targeting advanced and large-scale workflows:
- Object Storage Integrations: Support for Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, and Google Cloud Storage.
- Advanced Synchronization: Folder Watcher and real-time Folder Sync capabilities.
