DigitalOcean Spaces Client for Windows

Browse, upload and download DigitalOcean Spaces from a real Windows file manager - in the same window as your clouds, FTP servers and NAS.

DigitalOcean Spaces is S3-compatible object storage that pairs with your Droplets - handy for assets and backups. The DO control panel lets you poke at it, but it isn't a desktop file manager. FTPie connects a Space as an ordinary storage account so it shows up as a folder, next to your clouds, FTP servers and NAS.

Drag files in and out, move data straight between a Space and another storage with no local round-trip, and share a file by link - all from one window.

What you'll need

  • Region - the Space's datacenter, e.g. nyc3
  • Access Key and Secret Key - a Spaces key
  • A Space that already exists
  • Optional: a Bucket name (the Space name), if your key is scoped to one Space

Where to get your Spaces keys

  1. Sign in to the DigitalOcean control panel.
  2. Open API and scroll to Spaces Keys, then choose Generate New Key.
  3. Copy the Access Key and Secret - the secret is shown only once.
  4. Note your Space's region from its endpoint, <region>.digitaloceanspaces.com (nyc3, ams3, sfo3, sgp1, fra1, syd1).

How to connect in FTPie

  1. Add a new storage and choose DigitalOcean Spaces (under Enterprise Storage).
  2. Enter the Region, Access Key and Secret Key.
  3. If your key covers a single Space, put its name in the Bucket field.
  4. Click Test connection, and save.

What you can do

  • Browse Spaces and objects in a familiar dual-pane view
  • Upload, download and drag-and-drop with a resumable transfer queue
  • Move data between a Space and another storage with no local copy in between
  • Edit an object in place with the built-in editors
  • Share a file by presigned link without making the Space public

Good to know about object storage

  • "Folders" are name prefixes, not real directories. FTPie shows them as folders; under the hood a folder is a shared prefix on object names.
  • Share links are for files and are time-limited (presigned URLs, up to 7 days). There's no link for a whole folder.
  • Region selects the endpoint - pick the datacenter your Space lives in.
  • Previews download the object - object storage has no server-side thumbnails.

Common questions

Where do I get the Spaces keys?

DigitalOcean control panel -> API -> Spaces Keys -> Generate New Key. Copy the Access Key and Secret.

What region do I enter?

The Space's datacenter - nyc3, ams3, sfo3, sgp1, fra1 or syd1 - shown in its endpoint.

My key only covers one Space - does that work?

Yes - enter that Space's name in the Bucket field and FTPie opens it directly.

Is it free in FTPie?
