FTPie Release Notes

Version 2026.10.1

New: App Lock

  • •Protect FTPie with a password. Settings > App Lock sets one, and FTPie then asks for it when it starts. Free on every plan
  • •Your saved logins are encrypted, lock or no lock. Passwords, tokens and keys of every storage are now stored encrypted. Without App Lock they open only for your Windows account on this PC; with it, only with your password
  • •Lock now from the tray or the title bar, or have FTPie lock itself when it goes to the tray. Scheduled backups and transfers keep running while it is locked
  • •Forgot the password? FTPie can be reset, which signs you out of every storage - there is no other copy of the key. While FTPie is locked, connected AI assistants are refused, and the command line needs the password
  • •Export / Import storage connections has been removed. It copied FTPie's database to another PC, and the logins in it now open only on this one. Moving to a new PC keeps your logins if App Lock is on - the password opens them anywhere

New: FTPie in the Windows 11 context menu

  • •Right-click in Explorer and FTPie is right there - in the main Windows 11 menu, not behind "Show more options": Open in FTPie, Quick Share, Upload, Download here and Create document
  • •No administrator prompt. The menu and the handler for dragging files from FTPie into Explorer are set up for your account alone, so Windows 11 never asks for admin rights
  • •Open with FTPie. FTPie now appears in Explorer's "Open with" list for the documents it opens itself - Office files, PDFs and text files - on Windows 10 and 11. It never makes itself the default app, and Settings can switch it off
  • •Settings > Windows integration is a new page for everything that ties FTPie into Windows - the Explorer menu, Open with, server links and ftpie-cli on PATH - which used to sit at the bottom of General

One FTPie, however you start it

  • •Everything opens in the FTPie window you already have. Open with, Explorer's menu, desktop shortcuts and Create document used to start a second FTPie that could not load its web components; they now hand their request to the open window
  • •No more second FTPie while the first is still starting. A double-click, or a click while FTPie was loading at sign-in, could start two - and every screenshot then opened in both. A launch now waits for the window that is starting, and what it asked for opens there

SFTP keys and server links

  • •PuTTY keys work as they are. SFTP storages now take .ppk private keys from PuTTYgen - versions 2 and 3, with or without a passphrase - next to OpenSSH and PEM keys, so there is nothing to convert first. The key picker also shows .pem, .ppk and extensionless id_rsa / id_ed25519 files, which it used to hide. See SFTP
  • •Key mistakes say what is wrong. A missing or wrong passphrase, a file that isn't a key, or the public .pub key picked by mistake each get their own message, instead of "the server's encryption settings are not compatible"
  • •Paste a server link into Host. ftp://, ftps:// and sftp:// links now fill in the host, port, username, password and starting folder, and a link to a file opens its folder. Before, sftp:// and ftps:// links, and ftp:// links with a path, failed with "server not found"
  • •Click an ftp://, ftps:// or sftp:// link and it opens in FTPie. A server you have already added opens at that folder, with the file selected if the link points to one; a new server opens the add-storage form, filled in and with the connection tested. Turn it on in Settings > Windows integration. On Windows 10, ftp:// links also need FTPie picked for FTP in Windows' Default apps - the setting has a button that takes you there
  • •Pasting an sftp:// link while adding an FTP storage, or an ftp:// link while adding an SFTP one, now tells you which type to add instead of failing to connect

Trial and upgrade

  • •The trial-ended and Upgrade dialogs show what Pro gives you, and what it costs, instead of a bare notice
  • •Continuing with Free lets you choose which storages to keep, up to the Free plan's three
  • •Connecting an AI assistant (MCP) is a Pro feature, as the plan comparison lists it. Pro and the free trial include it. On the Free plan an assistant's requests get an answer saying MCP needs Pro, which it can pass on to you. Settings > MCP and your assistant's setup stay as they are, so activating Pro switches it back on without reconnecting. See MCP

Screenshots

  • •Copying a screenshot to the clipboard works every time. With a clipboard manager or Windows' clipboard history running, the copy after a capture failed: the screenshot tab opened seconds late, pasting gave nothing, and the Copy button showed an error for a copy that had worked
  • •"Copied to clipboard" now appears over the screenshot or recording when you press Ctrl+C - before, nothing showed where you were looking. See Screenshot
  • •New: a Text tool in the screenshot editor, after Blur. Click where the text goes and type; Enter or a click elsewhere keeps it, Shift+Enter starts a new line, and Esc throws it away. It takes its colour and size from the swatches and the thickness picker, with a soft halo so white text still reads on a white page
  • •Picking a window to capture works on scaled displays. On a display scaled above 100%, the highlight sat below and to the right of the window, and a window screenshot often failed with nothing saved. Screenshots and recordings both line up now

Language

  • •Every screen is translated in all 20 languages, App Lock and the new trial dialogs included, along with strings that had stayed English: the "Application updated" dialog, the Home breadcrumb and search box, the status bar while copying or moving
  • •Dates speak your language. "4 days ago" in the file list and Properties was English everywhere; it is translated now, with the right plural forms. The day headings on the Recent page use your language's own order ("5 września 2026", not "września 05, 2026"), and day and month names follow FTPie's language rather than Windows'
  • •The language picker is easier to find: it sits next to Theme near the top of Settings > General, no longer below Updates

Home and the file browser

  • •The Add storage tile on Home works wherever you click it. Only the + in its middle used to respond, and clicking beside it a second time showed an error
  • •Split view's divider is easier to grab. It is wider, has a grip in the middle so it is clear it can be dragged, and lights up when you point at it
  • •Empty folders are no longer blank. A faint pattern of file icons fills the space around "Nothing here...". Folders with files in them stay plain unless you turn on Settings > Folder Explorer > Show folder background
  • •Storage tiles on Home have a new look. Each logo sits larger on a dark tile of its own, and scrolling through many storages is smoother
  • •The warning mark on a storage tile says what went wrong. It used to show a technical error and then open the storage's settings whatever the cause. It now explains the problem the way Test connection does - a wrong password, a server that is down - and asks before opening the connection settings. The mark goes away once the storage connects again
  • •Free space no longer goes below zero. A storage that is over its quota showed a negative free space in Details; it shows 0 B now
  • •The folder tree's right-click menu caught up with the file list's. It now has Details and Copy CLI reference. Show in Explorer on My Computer opens This PC instead of doing nothing, Play, Preview and Save to local disk act on the folder you right-clicked rather than on what is selected in the list, and My Computer can no longer be removed from there

Look and feel

  • •Notes, Screenshot and Screen recording are one click away, as a row of icons in the settings popup in the title bar; the main menu's Tools group is gone. A capture started there moves FTPie out of the way while you shoot and brings it back as it was, maximized included
  • •Backup and scheduled transfer cards show where each job sends its files, with the destination's logo on a chip like the Home tiles. In the light themes these chips, the logo in Details and the slide-out main menu are dark
  • •Commands you paste into a terminal sit on a dark terminal-style block - in Connect an assistant, the CLI command builder's preview and Copy CLI reference
  • •Deleting a note asks in a dialog of its own that shows the note's name, category and when it was last modified, and says plainly that it can't be undone
  • •The Notes toolbar fits narrow windows. A long category is trimmed before the note's name, instead of the row being cut off mid-word

Fixes

  • •Dismissing the "close FTPie?" warning keeps FTPie open. Closing FTPie while a transfer is running, or with scheduled backups that would be missed, shows a warning - and closing that warning used to close FTPie as well
  • •Test connection checks what you just typed. After a failed test, fixing a typo and testing again ran against the first attempt's details, so a corrected password could still fail
  • •Restoring a backup says what it is doing - which archive it is downloading, and how many items it is restoring where - instead of a generic transfer line
  • •Tabs stop flickering. On the notification tabs of backups and scheduled transfers, in Settings and in the wizards, the selected tab no longer changes colour as the mouse moves over the page below it

Installer and more

  • •The installer's last screen shows what FTPie can do, in 32 languages
  • •Silent installs stay silent: no dialogs, and an exit code that says whether it worked - for anyone deploying FTPie with a script or a package manager
  • •Create document shows each app as a card with the file types it makes

Thank you for using FTPie!
