Hey there! Today I'd like to tell you about a handy feature we’ve built: the FTPie Shell Extension. This feature makes it super easy to manage and upload files directly from your desktop without needing to open the main FTPie app.

What is the FTPie Shell Extension?

The Shell Extension integrates into your Windows Explorer right-click menu, labeled as "FTPie". Under this menu, you’ll find submenus like Quick Share, Upload, and Create Document. It also includes useful options like Download Here and Open in FTPie.

How to Use the Shell Extension

1. Quick File Uploads:

  • Step 1: Right-click on any file or folder on your computer.
  • Step 2: Navigate to the "FTPie" menu and select "Upload".
  • Step 3: Choose your cloud or FTP destination.
  • Step 4: Your files are uploaded right away.

This makes it simple to transfer files from your PC to any connected cloud storage or FTP server, including popular options like Google Drive and Dropbox.

2. Instant Document Creation:

  • Step 1: Right-click in any folder on your computer.
  • Step 2: Go to "FTPie" and choose "Create Document".
  • Step 3: Pick your preferred format, such as Google Docs or Microsoft Word.

You can start new documents directly from your desktop, integrating seamlessly with Google Docs and Microsoft Office Online, avoiding the need for costly office software.

3. Easy File Sharing with Quick Share:

  • Step 1: Right-click on the file you want to share.
  • Step 2: Select "Quick Share" from the "FTPie" menu.
  • Step 3: Generate a shareable link, which you can also shorten.

This feature allows you to share any file on your local PC quickly.

4. Additional Features:

  • Download Here: Right-click on a local folder, select "FTPie", and choose "Download Here" to pick files from your cloud storage to download directly into the selected folder.
  • Open in FTPie: Right-click on a folder and select "Open in FTPie" to access that folder directly within the FTPie app.

Removing the Shell Extension

If you ever decide you don't need the Shell Extension, you can easily remove it through the FTPie settings.

Conclusion

FTPie’s Shell Extension is designed to simplify file management and sharing from your desktop. Whether you're uploading, creating documents, or downloading files, this feature offers a convenient solution. I'm always open to your feedback to help improve FTPie, so feel free to share your thoughts!
